Like the Jones Act, the Longshoremen's and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act provides benefits that are much better than most state workers' compensation law benefits. Like the Jones Act, there is much litigation over situs and status relating to injury. Coverage under the act is constantly changing due to the large amount of litigation over situs and status despite coverage extended to many additional workers under many differing scenarios. Coverage is expensive, and only a handful of insurers will even consider it.
